DaddyLongLegs is the confluence of three well known Vermont musicians – Rick Ceballos, David Gusakov and Matt Witten – whose talents merge to form a dynamic and highly original trad folk trio. Along with interesting settings of Celtic and old-time tunes, the band also explores genres not common to the fiddle-banjo repertoire, including 1930's jazz standards, Galician airs, 16th-century dance tunes and 19th-century Americana. Playing fiddle, viola, banjo, gourd banjo, piano, guitar, percussion and vocals, DaddyLongLegs creates vibrant, sensitive and surprising 21st century folk music.
Seven Days calls DaddyLongLegs a “local supergroup” and believes their debut album 'DaddyLongLegs', is an “exquisitely performed”, “stirring album” “that belongs at the top of the rotation for any acoustic music fan in Vermont”.
David Gusakov arrived in Vermont in 1973 and has been playing music in the state fulltime ever since. A long-time member of the Vermont Symphony, he has explored a variety of other genres with any number of ensembles. Currently, in addition to DaddyLongLegs, he plays as a member of Last Train to Zinkov with his son Nate, and Swing Noire, an acoustic Parisian jazz ensemble. About DaddyLongLegs he writes: “I'm having such a good time with this very inventive group – we keep surprising ourselves at unexpected moments!"
Born in Western PA, musically raised in Maine and seasoned in Vermont, Rick Ceballos explores the many facets of traditional folk music on banjo and button accordion. He is an experienced performer and talented song writer who has been entertaining New England audiences for almost forty years. Credits include The Champlain Valley Folk Festival, The Dance Flurry, First Night Burlington, Ripton Community Coffeehouse and many more.
Matthew Witten began his performing career on the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater with Pete Seeger and a bunch of other sailors and enviros. Witten's main gig is with the Swing Peepers , who carry on the tradition of earth-friendly songs for families in Vermont and surrounding states. With DaddyLongLegs, Witten plays guitar, keyboard, and percussion.
