The Ricochet Duo
THIS CONCERT HAS BEEN CANCELED
Ricochet Duo, the collaboration between pianist Rose Chancler and percussionist Jane Boxall, perform their program called "Wired", a new electroacoustic and minimalist concert program that explores crossover between classical and popular styles, emphasizing rhythm and the interlocking of piano and marimba sounds. The duo will perform works by Nancy Van De Vate, Marc Mellits, Paul Elwood, Steve Reich, Teresa Procaccini, among others.
Chancler and Boxall joined forces to form Ricochet Duo in 2008 after Chancler advertised on Craigslist: “Seeking classical musicians for collaboration.” Since their debut in the Piano by Nature series in upstate New York, they have been actively performing throughout the United States. Ricochet Duo has performed at Indiana University Pennsylvania, Vermont's Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, the Chautauqua Institution, Augsburg College, Eastman School of Music, Tribeca Performing Arts Center, Plattsburgh State University of New York, the historic Hand House in Elizabethtown, NY and for the Summer Events at Salisbury Congregational UCC in Vermont.
The duo is dedicated to celebrating the music of the 21st century and actively promotes the works of living composers. They have crafted multiple programs over the course of their collaboration, ranging from a program of music by women composers to a broad-ranging selection of ragtime and tango music, as well as a tribute to the late Adirondack conservationist, self-proclaimed Woodswoman, author, and friend Anne LaBastille.
Award-winning percussionist Jane Boxall is “in a genre of one,” according to Seven Days magazine. Boxall keeps a busy performance schedule as a solo marimbist and drumset artist, working across diverse musical genres. She has appeared with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, Prairie Ensemble and the Vermont Contemporary Music Ensemble. Boxall's compositions for percussion ensemble are widely performed from Texas to Hong Kong; her studio recordings have received radio airplay across the United States, on the BBC and on Dutch radio stations. Her recordings of Nancy Van de Vate's marimba compositions are released on the Naxos label. Boxall has shared stages and bills with Bradford Reed, Sheesham & Lotus, Vernon Reid, Myra Flynn, Gregory Douglass, The Life and Times, Brzowski, Cage, The Slackers, Les de Merle and Danny Seraphine. The News-Gazette says she is “a quintessentially natural performer… Incredible presence. Her body sings with movement and pure joy.” Finally, she is one of a very limited number of marimba artists worldwide to have developed an eight-mallet technique.
As a soloist, collaborative artist, and teacher, pianist Rose Chancler has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Chancler's recent focus has been performing chamber music and presenting concerts in New York's Adirondack State Park as the Artistic Director and founder of the acclaimed music series Piano by Nature presented at the historic Hand House in Elizabethtown, NY. Notable collaborations include working with Volkan Orhon, one of the top double bassists in the world, Los-Angeles-based trombonist Andy Malloy, Broadway legend George Hearn, violinist Katherine Winterstein, and bassoonist Ben Coelho. Chancler has held teaching positions at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks; Baylor University School of Music, the University of Iowa School of Music, and Plattsburgh State University. https://ricochetduo.com
